Link is the ASA's newsletter. There are three issues each year and as well as featuring various aspects of the FULL MEASURE Project©, it also covers a wide range of subjects of Church, national and international concern from a Christian Stewardship angle.

The theme of the Autumn 2002 issue of Link is Relationship: God in relationship in the Holy Trinity; God in relationship with creation; and our relationship with God, the world and each other. The articles illustrate in different ways the fact that Christian Stewardship is really all about relatedness and what that means in practice.

First Fruits
A WORSHIP ANTHOLOGY ON GENEROSITY AND GIVING
COMPILED BY ADRIAN MANN, ROBIN STEVENS AND JOHN WILLMINGTON
Canterbury Press Ltd. ISBN 1~85311392~1

This rich and varied worship anthology focuses on a theme of perennial concern to many churches: the challenge of giving for their work and mission.

FIRST FRUITS encourages openness of heart and hand, based on Jesus' teachings about money and generosity. It offers many creative ideas for teaching, preaching and reflection on this theme, and provides imaginative worship material that can be reproduced freely in service sheets, including:

  • Opening sentences
  • Hymns and songs with music, many especially written for this volume
  • Prayers of confession and adoration
  • Intercessions
  • Sermon outlines
  • All-age talks
  • Prayers for the gathering of the gifts
  • Eucharistic prefaces
  • Post-communion prayers
  • Complete service outlines
  • Free accompanying disk including the complete text of the book in Word and Rich Text formats.

This is what the Church Of England Gazette said about FIRST FRUITS:

"Those who follow the work of Christian Stewardship in the Church of England might be surprised to see that a book on Christian giving went into the Top Ten Religious Book Sales as recorded by the Church Times.

"FIRST FRUITS was compiled by Robin Stevens, Adrian Mann and John Willmington - all heavily involved with the preaching and teaching of Christian Stewardship - in response to the need for worship material connected to the challenge of giving for the Church's work and mission. The book includes imaginative worship material gathered from around the world with new hymns and sermon outlines.

"The central theme is not fully explored in many contemporary anthologies of prayers, songs and readings. The compilers have brought together some very challenging and diverse material and made it readily available to build into a service, study session or meditation. All the worship material is included on a floppy disk.

"In addressing national and international economic issues and world poverty, `it is not surprising that the book cannot come up with pat formulas of resolution but, through its varying contributions, there emerges the strong belief that these concerns must be worked on in the light of God's concern and care for our world`, said one reviewer."

FIRST FRUITS is available from the Church House Bookshop or direct from ASA.

No Small Change
Money, Christians and the Church BY ADRIAN MANN
Published by SCM~Canterbury Press Ltd. ISBN 1~85311~057~4

In this book, ADRIAN MANN examines the realities of contemporary economics and ethics, the Church’s response to money and property, and offers a way ahead in these difficult financial times for many dioceses.

“This is an important book which deserves to be widely read”
Church Times

“The ideas put forward by Adrian Mann merit serious and careful consideration”
Industry Churches Forum.

NO SMALL CHANGE was first published in 1992. It has lost none of its relevance for 2002 and, I dare say, for some time to come. Anyone wishing to understand the importance of money for Christians, and the Church’s uneasy duality about it, should read this book.
